06.20.04

There's a cute girl who works at the Eckerd's where I procure my cigarettes two or three times a week. She's curiously friendly and often chats me up a little. Recently taken to confiding in me conspiratorially about other patrons, her voice gets real low and she makes me lean in to her in order to hear what she's saying. If I were single, a lesbian, and about 15 years younger, I'd probably ask her out on a date. Since I'm married, hetero and not anywhere near 25, I generally settle for looking over the top of my glasses and saying things like, "That color looks great on you." No matter what she's wearing.

P.S. I took the photograph above at Kanahapa Botanical Gardens, my favorite place in Gainesville aside from Paynes Prairie and the Voodoo Sushi Bar. If you look to the right of the tree you can see a ghostly figure! I think he died in the Civil War.
