11.05.04 We the People "Apparently, my country holds a fundamentally different set of values than I thought we did, and that scares the shit out of me." Indeed they do, Wil Wheaton. Indeed they do. I made the MoveOn.org lady cry the other day simply by asking what exactly did Kerry do in the last 20 years. She had lots to say about his service in Viet Nam, but when pressed for details about his contributions since that time, she stumbled, muttered and eventually apologized to me for not being more informed. When I pressed her about why she would vote for Kerry, rather than say, Michael Badnarik or Ralph Nader, she responded, "Bad-who?" (She also wasn't clear on what a Libertarian was, but that's for another entry.) The final answer from the official representative of MoveOn.org regarding why she was voting for Kerry was, "I get a good vibe from him." How about I type that one more time just for fun. I get a good vibe from him. Oh, that's a gem. Yeah. You know. Hey. It's all the 60's again, man. Peace, love, and let's just blaze up and get in a little booth and vote for the guy with the best vibe. While we're at it, let's toss thinking critically completely out the window and get Michael Moore to do the research for us. It'll be one heady trip, dude! Yeah. This country holds a fundamentally different set of values than I do. I'm not surprised by it, though I will say I'm disappointed.
