1,075 Miles, Door-to-Door
After
a whirlwind weekend in Cayo Hueso ringing in Sir AlCan'tHang's
40th birthday, I've returned accomplishing three of my four
goals.
Avoiding
a hangover? Success!
Enjoying
the crap out of Al, his crew and all the poker bloggers who showed up?
Success!
Winning
and losing a multitude of retardo prop bets? Success!
Seeing
a ghost? Failed.
As
an atheist I know there are no such things as floaty angels,
gods who grant wishes, and the walking undead, but a girl can
dream right? I fall squarely in the "I want to
believe" camp. When looking for a place to stay, my dork
side had me hitting up google for "haunted hotels in key
west" and I booked Room 18 in Marerro's Guest Mansion,
where the long dead Enriquetta Marerro is said to still
wander. While it was indeed creepy
trying to sleep in her former bedroom, much to my
disappointment, she never showed up.
In
fact, not only did Ms. Marerro not keep me up at night,
nothing did. Though the mansion is located right off Duval,
Room 18 is fairly well insulated from street noise and best of
all, rooster noise. I slept great there and highly recommend
the place. (The 24 hour clothing-optional pool is just. plain.
bonus.)
Pauly
and Al have been
faithfully posting details and photos of the bacchanal. I'd
write more, but I'm closing on the Poker Dome in a few short
days and time is suddenly a scarce commodity.
Here
are a couple of photos. (Keep an eye on Maudie's
site for what I'm sure will be excellent shots of
Hemingway's place--I hope she posts the one I had her take of
Charlie Chaplin. Meow.)
I
call this one: JOE SPEAKER ENJOYS A REFRESHING BEVERAGE

This
one is titled: FLYING OVER THE DEAD

I
love them both: THE BROTHERS MCGUIRE

One
of my favorites: COOKING WITH TONY

Between
the upcoming move, an extremely hectic work schedule and even
more travel planned for the weekend of the 13th, I'll be back
sometime in the middle of October.
xoxo!
