· verb; the poker diaries 02.15.05 Played an 1800 player NLHE freeroll on PartyPoker while listening to Interpol (Antics). When playing a live game, background noise such as televisions and music I don't care for can really muck up my game, but Interpol, Air, STS9, Tortoise, Sigur Ros. . . they help me focus without necessarily distracting me from other players and what they might be up to. When playing online, the music selection is the same. So I had Interpol and this tourney. For about three hours. Three hours and 15 hands. I picked up AKs and AA early in the game allowing me to double up and just hang out while the blinds were relatively low and the loose callers slowly busted themselves out. Playing relatively tightly for a long time at the same table allowed me to once in awhile get a little aggro with crap like K9s. Most respected my bets and folded, putting a little more fake money in my coffers. I did trap myself in the big blind, however, with 72 when the flop came down 6A7 rainbow. I checked and this one guy who had played very loosely and who was in position made a bet--a very low bet. It wasn't even the pot. I figured, what the hey, and called it. The turn came down 2 giving me two pair, but I checked (my huge mistake). The loose guy also checked. The river gave us a 9 and while there was a possible straight out there, I didn't put Mr. Loose on that (or the other A) so I placed a very large bet--about half my stack. Expecting him to fold, he CALLED! At first I thought, YES! I WIN! (In a high squeaky voice inside my head.) Until the little pile of animated money drifted away from me and towards him. He had A9. He might have folded had I bet on the turn as I should have. STUPID! And now I was out half my stack. Discouraged and with blinds rising, I knew I was going to have to get smarter in order to place in the money. If you recall, I busted out on PartyPoker and was playing these tourneys with my bonus points, hoping to put at least $25 back into my online bankroll. You know how it ends, right? It didn't happen. I hit another couple of good hands, keeping me in the game up until there were only 195 players left. And then? I tanked. My stack was frighteningly low and I was dealt K10s. I went all in and hit a K on the flop. Two kings! I thought I had a chance, only to lose it to some dude sitting on the other two kings. Or "The Carebears" as I like to call them. Don't ask why. Well, you can ask and if you ask nicely without mocking my shoddy play, I'll explain it sometime. Previous Poker Game - Next Poker Game
